We hope you are able to take the necessary precautions and to care for yourselves and your loved ones during these unprecedented times.  As we strive to navigate the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we wanted you to know how we at the Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut are addressing the situation.

FIRST, your health is most important to us and as such we have postponed the annual Noche de Gala event held on the first Friday in June since 2000.  Regardless of the postponement of the Gala, we remain committed to awarding this year’s scholarships. The scholarship application deadline has been moved to May 31, 2020.  Please remember that our students will need our support now more than ever before, and, that without the Gala, we must raise the necessary funds online.

SECOND, the Hispanic Alliance is committed to remaining a strong advocate and a timely resource for its constituents during these uncertain times as all cope with the spread of COVID-19.

  • We have developed a preliminary bilingual COVID-19 information resource page on our website:  www.hispanicalliance.net.

  • We are implementing our Emergency Basic Needs Fund plan so that we can help those in our community with the most basic needs such as medication,  food and shelter. These include the immigrants, undocumented persons and those otherwise unable to obtain governmental funds.   The Hispanic Alliance has had this program in place for over 15 years. During this time we have helped thousands of disenfranchised with emergency funds.  We have done this and will continue to do so, quietly behind the scenes through our partnerships with regional health, social service organizations and schools.

  • We have developed a survey that has been sent to our regional health, social service and education partners to best understand the critical needs of our constituents.

THIRD, as the only active Hispanic / Latino / Latinx organization of its kind in the region, we are committed to doing our part for as long as we possibly can!   To do that we need your commitment and support now more than ever before! We understand these are difficult times for everyone, but we ask you to keep in mind  that for some the challenges and needs are even greater and we need your support more than ever.

FOURTH, we have created a targeted program to provide food and medications to our most vulnerable Latinx populations, undocumented and senior citizens.  We are providing this this support through our internal referral networks and established emergency fund programs.   We wish to thank the Tufts Health Foundation and the Connecticut Health Foundation for their support to get us started on this program.  We have identified that the need is much greater than our current ability to support and hope that we are able to increase our support in the future.

NOW IS THE TIME TO COME TOGETHER IN SPIRIT AND UNITY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED! EVERY PENNY COUNTS!

EVEN THE SMALLEST DONATIONS MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OUR MOST VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.
